Being born in Detroit, I have been exposed to both struggle and privilege, and I grew up somewhere in between. My family was similar to many in Detroit. Sometimes we were in the land of struggle. Other times we tasted the fruit of privilege. But at all times we survived through love, community, and old-fashioned hard work.
In college, is where I truly met Jesus. Growing up Black, we learned a lot about Him. We went to church on holidays. We went to Sunday school. I even participated in a Tom Thumb Wedding, which had nothing to do with Jesus and everything to do with tradition in some denominational churches. But it was in college when I truly encountered Jesus. I met real love, purpose, joy, and wholeness. I gained an inner peace that I never knew was missing. The best decision I’ve ever made in life was accepting Jesus as both my Lord and my Savior.
It is from the perspective of a passionate Believer and industrious Detroiter that this blog is crafted. My hope, through the power of the written word and photography, is to encourage anyone who reads to pursue purpose and make their mark in the world!
